BITRUST Looks at How Global Tech Leaders Consider Crypto

It’s always interesting to know what our generation’s tech giants are saying about cryptocurrencies. So far their comments have varied greatly, even going from one extreme to another. In this blog post we ask BITRUST team members to choose a few of these “celebrity” opinions and say why they found them interesting.

CTO, Sergey Silin

(From a strong FinTech background, he succeeded in attracting a team of talented software developers to launch BITRUST)

I would start with the former CEO of Microsoft, Bill Gates — one of the tech icons and the world’s second wealthiest person. In a 2014 interview he mentioned the numerous benefits of bitcoin as a currency, stating that the key is bitcoin technology itself, as one can build on it. At the time the whole community was excited about the support of Gates and his enthusiasm for the technology.

However, he recently amended his view, writing: “The main feature of crypto currencies is their anonymity. I don’t think this is a good thing.. I think the speculative wave around ICOs and crypto currencies is super risky for those who go long.” Mr Gates especially noted how it could make it more difficult for governments to fight against money laundering and funding terrorism.

This point is definitely always worth taking seriously for anyone in crypto community. However, fiat currencies are posing the same (or even greater) risks, and the rise of cryptocurrencies is not proportionally related to criminal activities. It’s important to remember the risks, but not to dismiss completely the benefits of the technology itself. And projects like BITRUST are being built to handle some of these risks.

CFO, Elina Krumina

(12 years of comprehensive experience and a long record of accomplishment in the corporate banking sector)

I’m choosing Elon Musk for his beautiful mind and great sense of humour. In his recent attempt to “learn about cryptocurrencies” he declared that he would send anyone twice as many ETHs as they would send to him first. This post in Reddit was paired with a photo showing Musk holding Julian Hosp’s book, “Cryptocurrencies Simply Explained”. It was a big leap from his moderate claim in 2014 that “my opinion of bitcoin is that it’s probably a good thing”.

The photo really got the crypto community worked up, as with Musk’s experience in payment services, it felt like something revolutionary could be coming. Well, at BITRUST we definitely hope to see more such images and hear real ideas from this amazing guy!

CEO, Alex Duhamel
(Alex’s core expertise is in derivative functionalities and hedging strategies used in various forms of insurance against asset depreciation)

I would mention Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, who does not consider stopping as an option. So, it’s always interesting to see “what’s next” for Facebook. In his famous post in January this year he declared that he is “interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies (he mentioned encryption and cryptocurrency), and how best to use them in our services”. “..One of the most interesting questions in technology right now is about centralization vs. decentralization,” Zuckerberg wrote. “A lot of us got into technology because we believe it can be a decentralizing force that puts more power in people’s hands.”

This goes completely in the enthusiastic spirit of blockchain and we are more than curious to see what this interest will result in. It’s still unknown if Facebook will adopt cryptocurrency in any form this year or later, but to me this encouragement was music to my ears!

BITRUST is a P2P cryptocurrency insurance platform currently under development. To finance the development and launch of the BITRUST platform, a limited-supply sale of BITRUST tokens (BTFs) has been created by BTF Project Limited. The sale started on March 5th — read more information about the BITRUST ICO structure, terms and the company itself here.
